A Different Way of Looking at Human Resources

I was reading Seth Godin’s blog and in his February 19 posting, he said that having an HR department more or less puts people in the category of just another asset, like the copier, the press brake or the building.
Many companies’ top people (CEO, COO, CFO) see HR as a necessary evil for the company, i.e. a way to stay out of trouble.
If, as Godin says, the person running the department were seen as the VP of Talent (or it were called the Talent Department), it might be looked at differently.
The simple point is that when a company starts to see their people as talented, resourceful and idea-creators, instead of just another asset, great things can happen.
