Getting Great Candidates

In Guy Kawasaki’s March 2 blog posting titled “Pure Evangelism—How to Get Great Candidates” GuyKawasaki, he talks about the plus side of explaining to job candidates that your company will operate as a stepping stone for them. Guy shares ideas from an article by Penelope Trunk PenelopeTrunk.

I love the concept of telling people where you are going to help them go in their careers. Many employers are afraid to mention anything about their employees’ futures that may not include their company. But if you help them see how your company is the best place to develop certain skills or make the right contacts for the future, you are going to stand out as a company that is different. Helping others see their futures in a way that helps your own business can only be a win-win situation.

As a business consultant, I work with owners of smaller companies and since they may have only a few people (or a few key people), hiring the right person is even more critical. I plan to pass this idea on to my clients to put in their “toolkits” to help find the best candidates.
